Housing Additions
Igluliuqatigiingniq, or “Building Houses Together,” generally referred to as Nunavut 3000, is a strategy that aims to increase Nunavut’s housing supply by 3,000 units by 2030.
The housing target for Grise Fiord is one 6-plex, and 2 single/modular units.
The development of these units is currently in progress. The construction work has been sub-contracted by Nunavut Construction Corporation to Arctic Fresh.
To support this initiative, the Government of Canada introduced the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) in the 2022 budget to facilitate an accelerated supply of housing and ‘enhance certainty in the approvals and building process.
The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is also in the process of adding 3 single, modular units. These units will be substantially completed this fall. These units are to meet QIA staffing needs.
