Pedestrian Bridge
Residents find that taking a shortcut across ‘Airport River’ (where culverts are usually positioned for taking this route) is both a shorter walking distance to the other side of the community, but also a safer route that walking on the main bridge along the waterfront (which is often frequented by polar bears).
We are working with Worley Canada to ensure all permitting and licensing is in place to construct an actual walking bridge across the River as well as on proposed designs for the bridge. The Nunavut Water Board appears to be the only authority that is asking to review a Proposal pertaining to what the Hamlet is pursuing.
Ensuring the bridge is situated above the maximum water level of the River, and that it is permanently anchored to withstand any extreme weather impacts, will both be key.
